Dangote to invest US$4.6bn in Nigeria farming

NIGERIA - Dangote Group, controlled by Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, plans to invest $3.8bn in sugar and rice and $800m in dairy production in the next three years as the company seeks to expand and deal with a shortage of dollars in its home market of Nigeria.

SOUTH AFRICA - Despite revising South Africa’s soybean production forecast to 1.23 million tonnes in May, the Crop Estimate Committee has upped its forecast to 1.34 million tonnes – making this season’s crop the largest on record, the Agriculture Business Chamber (Agbiz) said in its latest newsletter.
